Sydney has been experiencing her first cold. Poor baby is an understatement!
It started Sunday morning. She woke up horribly congested with a runny nose. It progressively got worse throughout the day, and ended with a fever. She didn't sleep well, she would stir and cry every 20-30 minutes all night long. Luckily I was able to calm her down pretty quickly every time.
Yesterday was more of the same and worse. The fever returned, the congestion got worse, more runny nose, and constant coughing and hacking. She slept a lot but only if she was being held. The second you put her down she would wake up screaming. I was able to put her on the couch for about 15 minutes and then she woke up hungry.
Last night was worse than Sunday night. She woke up at 11:30 PM crying, coughing, and burning up with a fever again. Finally by 2 AM we decided a bottle might be the only thing to get her back to sleep. Thankfully two ounces later she finally drifted off to sleep. She slept really well until 5:30 AM and then she tossed, turned, and coughed until 6:15 AM when I decided it was time for breakfast.
She's been doing fairly well this morning. I must say I am amazed at how much snot can be contained in such a tiny nose! I have had to suction her so much and so often that she doesn't even cry about it anymore, she just lays there and lets me do it. And if it isn't coming out of her nose, she's spitting it up. I will always have the fond memory from last night of being up at 1 AM, trying to rock her back to sleep, and getting a nice spew of mucous throw up running all down my backside. And that was just the first of a several mucous mass exit moments last night.
This definitely makes the list of one of the worst experiences for me. It's so hard to be so helpless and watch your baby suffer. I cannot wait until she is fully recovered and her smiley self again.
