Lessons Learned

Sydney is such a great teacher! Here are some lessons we have learned from her thus far.

-Never put baby down without (1) a bib on baby, (2) a burp cloth underneath baby, and (3) a receiving blanket covering up the item baby is laying on. Failure to adhere to these instructions will result in the need to completey dismantle whatever the object is (swing, car seat, papasan) for washing after baby spits up all over it.

-Baby only wants the pacifer when baby wants the pacifer. Other times when baby does NOT want the pacifer, do not second guess the "that tastes disgusting get it out of my mouth" look because it just does no one any good.

-It's best to hold your breath when changing poopy diapers to prevent your own gag reflex.

-Bed time is when baby says it is...not when you think it is, even if Daddy tries to fake baby out to make baby think it is bed time, if it isn't...baby will not go to sleep, so just give in and play for a while.

-If baby is sleeping, let baby be, period, end of sentence.

-Baby may smile for you one time, but do not assume repeating the same act will get another smile. In fact, it may just make baby cry the second time around. Who knows why, but it is what it is.

-Diaper changing time signals baby to kick and squirm like crazy. It is instinctive...time to change diaper Mommy? Time for me to play soccer on the changing table and see how many times I can get you to mess up putting the diaper on correctly. It is just one other way for baby to teach you the virtue of patience.

-When baby is really hungry you have about two seconds to prepare a bottle, which is impossible, but baby thinks otherwise. Luckily over time your bottle making skills get pretty good.

-When baby wants to cuddle, it is the best thing ever! Enjoy every second. And when baby smiles, it makes it all worthwhile!
