Sydney is so sick right now. She had a slight cough on Monday this week, then Tuesday it got worse, Tuesday night she had a low grade fever, woke up Wednesday at 4 AM with 100.7 fever and coughing. All day Wednesday she acted totally fine but the cough was horrendous. Thursday we decided to keep her home from school, even though it was picture day :(, and take her to the doctor. The doctor listened to her chest and was worried she may have pneumonia, so she sent us for chest x-rays but they turned out okay. No pneumonia. Whew!! But the congestion and cough are really bad so now she is on a steroid for three days. She woke up at 5 AM this morning and the sickness finally hit her hard. She was coughing and crying as I held her. :( I fed her a waffle and gave her the steroid medicine. I was slightly afraid it would make her wired and keep her awake but she went back to bed and is still sleeping at 8:30 AM.
As for potty training, Sydney is on her own mission to use the toilet and we are truly proud of her. She is still afraid to not wear a diaper though. So I'm not going to fight that for now. She has initiated this potty training business all on her own, so I'm going to let her continue at her own pace for a while. She asks to potty several times a day without us asking her. I think once we get to the point we think she is ready for no diaper, I am going to start asking her frequently to help eliminate the accidents in the diaper.
Sydney is such a big girl now. She communicates so well and has such an amazing memory. I try to really minimize treating her like a baby or kid as much as I can. I do not underestimate her ability to understand things around her or what is going to happen. Yesterday when taking her to the doctor, I told her we were going to the doctor and that it was for her. She didn't like it, but I didn't want to trick her into going, knowing it would just upset her eventually anyways. I explained to her that it was for her cough, and the doctor would make her cough feel better. She was scared, and she whined when we got into the office and the doctor came in the room. But once the doctor started examining her, she was great. She let the doctor listen to her chest for several minutes, let the doctor check her ears and nose, and then stuck out her tongue so she could look at her throat. She was fantastic. Then when we had to go for chest x-rays, I told her they were taking pictures of her chest to help her cough. She was scared again too. But once the lady propped her up on the stool, her fear again seemed to subside and she did great. I was just so incredibly proud of her for handling it all so well. This is the first time she has been really seriously sick since before I quit working in July 2011.
Here are the last of the pictures from October 2012. Hope you have a fabulous weekend. Say a prayer for Sydney if you can, I am hoping she is all better by Monday but sooner wouldn't hurt.
