We had our first prenatal appointment today. Nick was there to observe and hear it all. Pee test, a few tubes of blood, and a nice pelvic exam. Fun stuff! The staff at the office is really nice. They see pregnant people every day, but they still seemed genuinely excited for us. :)
We left with a bag full of goodies. All kinds of magazines and coupons. They called in some nausea medicine for me even though I'm not having any trouble yet. Which works out well because if I do start having trouble with it, I won't have to call them, I can just order the prescription and pick it up.
I was really pleased with how thorough the visit was, she was giving us so much information and we had no questions. Is that normal? Finally I remembered to ask about the possibility of miscarriage. She said about 10-12% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. That was lower than what I had read elsewhere. I am still trying my best not to be concerned with it, because if it is in God's plan, it will happen and we will cope with it.
When we got on the elevator to leave, a guy was already on it and saw our goodie bag. He smiled and said "so you're having a baby!" We both smiled, "yeah..." "First one?" he asked, "yeah..." Then he says, "Well let me tell you, once they're here, they never go away...I have a 30 year old." Then he laughed and we couldn't help but laugh with him. Of course he said congratulations too. It felt funny having someone else know our "secret" even though it was a stranger. ;)
Our next appointment is in three weeks - our first sonogram of Baby Hein!
