Driving to work this morning I got to thinking about all the things that had happened over the weekend. Boy, what one little test can do! So the idea of creating a "secret" blog popped into my head, and I thought...cute idea. That way once we do finally tell people, you can go back (if you are ever so curious) and read what life was like when we first found out.
It all started because Friday night I could not sleep. I was in the bathroom every two hours. Which, is normal for me if I drink water at night. But I didn't. I had hardly anything to drink after 6 PM. Still, I didn't think much of it until the next afternoon.
Saturday, October 10th, I volunteered at the food bank. This required a lot of physical labor, and I was exhausted by the end of it. I was SOOOO sore. Plus I had a lot of stomach cramps, which I thought were probably just "that time coming." I went home and took a nice long nap.
Around 4:30 PM I woke up and called my friend Connie. We talked for 20 minutes or so, and then I went to the grocery store. On the way to the store it hit me, "maybe I should buy a test?!" I figured I would eventually need one anyhow, with the grace of God. Then as I was driving to Kroger, I started thinking about the frequent bathroom trips the night before, and the cramping. I got a bit nervous to say the least. Not wanting to get my hopes up, I immediately talked myself out of the possibility that I was pregnant, but decided I would still buy a test just to have one at home for future use.
But when I got home from the grocery store, I couldn't resist. I had to know. I had taken these things a million times when we first got married because I was convinced birth control did not work as good as they said it did. I knew very well what a negative result looked like. LOL! So I got home, and busted out the stick. Nick wasn't home, he was out golfing.
So I took the test. And the line started getting darker, and darker. Needless to say, I had to stare at the results for a good five minutes. First I convinced myself that the line was still too light...so I was waiting for it to disappear to show a negative. But then it just got darker and darker. Seriously?!?! I could not believe my eyes. How could it happen the very first month? I stared harder and harder, then came a few little tears and a few "wish my Mom was here" moments.
Then my mind goes crazy about how should I tell Nick. Long story short, it didn't work out the way I planned. I had went over to Connie's for a while and he was still golfing, so I didn't call him (never disturb a man's golf game, Hein Wife Rule #1). When he got home, somehow he called me seven times over 20 minutes wondering where I was, so I raced home. I hadn't heard any of his phone calls. I had to tell him as soon as I got home because he was wanting to know if we could go to a friend's house for dinner. His first reaction was....(grin)..."I knew it!" He was always wanting to put it off, knowing it would happen too fast. I had convinced him and myself that it would take months. Oops.
So that was how it went. Nick is already treating me like a fragile piece of glass, but it's sweet. Now we just have to keep it a secret for seven more weeks, and pray every night we have a healthy baby.
