I am only five weeks along, but this pregnancy diet thing is freaking me out. I feel like I am doing it all wrong. Every time I turn around I have made a mistake.
Thursday at a work event I ate two cheeses, one was Gouda, and the other I have no clue. Cheeses are an area of concern during pregnancy because there are certain ones you cannot eat. Most readings refer to them as "soft" cheeses and the one I ate was fairly hard, so I'm trying to comfort myself with that. I had two bites but still, it is freaking me out.
Thursday at the same work event I had smoked salmon. Well, I honestly cannot remember if it was smoked or not. A lot of materials recommend salmon during pregnancy because it is full of vitamins. So when it showed up on the buffet menu I was happy because when else am I going to get salmon prepared for me without paying for it myself. But then last night I started reading and apparently smoked salmon is NOT good...was it smoked!?!?! I cannot remember!! It tasted good. Other people on Yahoo said they ate smoked salmon during pregnancy and it was fine...how can I trust strangers though?
Friday I went to Chick-fil-a with Patricia and ordered Diet Lemonade. Half way into drinking it I nearly choked, realizing I am not suppose to have artificial sweeteners. OMG. I told Patricia she could have it. I read up this morning and it is made with splenda, which most websites say is safe during pregnancy. Whew. I also read you cannot have Crystal Light...I have had some in the past week. AGH!!!
It is just overwhelming. Why can't there be stickers on everything everywhere that tells you "safe for pregnancy" and "not safe for pregnancy?" That would make it soooo much easier! Can't the world be considerate of those of us producing new humans and ensure we don't screw up out of ignorance? Of course Nick was not pleased with my list of follies and sternly told me I need to stick with plain, boring foods and water. Easy for him to say. I told him I hope one day, somehow, he gets to experience this and see just how easily he follows all of the rules. It will never happen, but out of my irritation it sounded like a good comeback.
